the story of good gold.
good gold started as sweet little side-hustle (named the Au crew), popping up on weekends around Omaha & Kansas City in October of 2019. back then, very few people had ever heard of permanent jewelry, and everything - the materials, the welder, the promotions & marketing, etc - were all made up along the way, building a business blueprint from scratch. months of trial and error, and learning valuable lessons were spent, perfecting the technique and building skills to ensure that every forever piece would actually stay on forever.
nearly five years after purchasing the first spool of gold and the first welder in June of 2019 (which had replaced within three months), good gold has now welded over 4,000 permanent pieces, built an incredibly talented team in Omaha - and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

a thin layer of gold (less than .05% gold) over an inexpensive base metal like brass, copper or nickel. this thin layer of gold will chip, flake and tarnish, and may also irritate sensitive skin. gold plated jewelry can be a good option for trying new styles, or for a costume.

a thicker layer of gold (5% gold) over a base metal. this can sometimes be inexpensive like brass, copper or nickel, or sometimes a higher-quality jeweler’s brass that will hold up better over time. the thick gold layer is bonded to the base metal, so it won’t flake or chip, but daily wear causes friction that lightly sands the surface of the metal, and over time, the gold layer will wear away and expose the base metal underneath. for this reason, it is not designed to last for years when worn daily and is not recommended for permanent jewelry.

solid gold is gold all the way through, with no base metal core. because of this, it can’t ever tarnish - even with daily friction, there is just more gold underneath. solid gold is good for investment pieces (like permanent jewelry) and is great for everyday wear, with little to no skin sensitivity.
